Lyrid

Meteor Shower

The Lyrid meteor shower is an annual celestial event that occurs every April when Earth passes through a trail of debris left by Comet C/1861 G1 (Thatcher). As these tiny space particles hit our atmosphere at speeds of about 30 miles per second, they burn up and create bright streaks of light across the sky. The meteors appear to originate from the constellation Lyra, specifically near the bright star Vega so called Lyrids. They are known for producing occasional bright flashes called fireballs. Every few decades, they can also surprise watchers with rare "outbursts" of up to 100 meteors per hour.
Etherayan is going to witness this spectacular shower on April 24, 2026.
